Due to the large rains I document with my earlier post, Lake Delton no longer exists. The earth next to the damn just gave way and completely drained the lake. Thankfully no one was hurt.
Those are some beautiful rock formations. Yikes! First all that snow and now this rain. Thanks for the pictures in the previous post and the links in this one.
The land where the lake is/was, was actually a prairie. They flooded it a long time ago to create the lake. They did not destroy beautiful glens or canyons. Also, there is alot more to the Dells than just being a "tourist trap". Spend some time getting to know the area and the people, and you would come to find that it is a real town, with very proud locals who work hard to make a living in an area without many other opportunities. I am very proud of my town and think you should learn more of the history, and maybe avoid the "traps" that are in so many towns in the US. It is a great little town, with many beautiful natural sites :)
I forgot to mention, the road that was washed out is nearing completion. The lake will begin to be refilled soon after. We should have our beautiful lake back by summer '09. It will take a few years to stock the fish again, but the lake will be back!!
